The Marguerite Centre

Where life begins again

The Marguerite Centre is the only facility of its kind in Nova Scotia for women recovering from addictions and abuse.

It is a place where holistic therapies such as reiki, yoga, acupuncture, journal writing and healing circle are as prevalent as conventional therapies; a place where nature and spirituality hold an integral place in the journey.

Located in the Halifax Regional Municipality, The Marguerite Centre is staffed 24 hours a day. Residents receive their own room, can live there for up to a year, and are empowered to create their own path to healing and recovery. The Marguerite Centre encourages interaction between women in recovery and their children. It provides a place for children to visit, express, heal and enjoy their relationships with their mothers. Counselors work with the residents to develop positive family plans and goals.

The Name

Marguerite Bourgeoys, a young woman from France, came to Montreal to teach in 1653. She worked towards the education of women and children so that their lives would be eased from the hardships of a new land. Marguerite's compassion, commitment and vision lives on in the work of the Congregation of Notre Dame. In 1982, the Vatican named Marguerite Canada’s first female saint.

The Marguerite Centre is a tribute to this pioneering woman. We endeavour to emulate her strength and dedication by helping women and children in need.

Marguerite means daisy in French, hence our logo.
